THIS WEEK's EXERCISE POST: THE FULL POST AND DETAILS

The first exercise of 2014 is creating a concept of the Skillful Huntsman. This is based on a study first done from Scott Robertson and his book of the same name. The goal is to push students still learning and refining their skills farther and more into a streamline mindset of creating concept art!

Huntsman Feature by CGCookie

EXERCISE: Create your own interpretation concept art of the character: the Huntsman.

GOAL: To challenge yourself and work on a pre-given concept similar to a concept artist working in the industry.

As a concept artist you’re job is to take all the information given mixed with the inspiration of the story and the stored references you have gathered throughout your life to create some concept work! Sometimes (if not most) you’ll be given a concept that you’re not fond of working on. Be diligent and give it the best shot you got, otherwise you’re just wasting your time and the company’s time. If you are a sci-fi concept artist give this exercise a go, and take the sci-fi influence and carry it over into the concept!

Such a nice assignment. Would definitely do it if I wasn't busy with the basics tutorials (value shading) and heading for a week's vacation abroad..

Just as a sidenote, there's a typo in the last paragraph..."as a concept artist you're job is to..." where you're is meant to be your.
